Weight Good / Damn Arthiritis / Event Coming- Virtual 5K / Welcome to New Peeps!

So it’s been a while since I’ve had a regular old blog post. Photo update, a bunch or reviews, but no real update on me and what’s been going on.

I was worried I wouldn’t have a lot to talk about, and now I’ve got a shit ton to share with you.

Ok, so here we go: same as always, weight first. Still holding steady. I have transitioned into not logging my food at all on the weekends (with the exception of one in the beginning of this month- I felt like I had been pumping myself full of shitty food for over a week and just didn’t feel like I was used to feeling, so I stayed hardcore over the weekend and that helped me reign things in) And I keep finding reasons to not log for the day. I have my work holiday party today, for instance. So boom, create a new food, call it “Work Holiday Party”, make it equal to my calories for the day and close out the day. I’ve been doing this in an effort to gain progressively more and more independence (if you want to call it that) from the Myfitnesspal app. I will always use it, but I would really like to use it more as an aide and not a total crutch going forward. I’ve said this before, but looking long term, it just does not seem realistic to assume that I will be logging everything I eat forever.

So that’s weight. Next up is the workouts. Well, there’s a bit for me to catch you up on here. I mentioned before I tweaked my knee during the Philly Half. So after a visit to the Dr, an x-ray, and a visit to a specialist, it turns out I have arthritis in my knee. Not the worst news, I can still run, but I have to go to Physical Therapy to build up the knee and the surrounding areas, and take some extra precautionary measures to just take care of it a little better. So Hello, new running shoes every 200 miles, compression sleeve, kenisio tape, etc.(and I am toying with the idea of bumping up to Nike’s most heavily padded running shoes, a step up from my current ones. I LOVE my current ones though, so I will have to test them out and see how that goes though), I have run approx 5 times since the half, a bunch of 5Ks on the treadmill, since it’s lower impact, and then I tried a 10K which turned into a 3 mile run and a 3 mile walk. I am actually feeling really good and REALLY getting the itch to get back out there, so I may start testing things out and start to ease my way back in. Most of this stuff is foreign to me, so I will have to learn as I go, seems to be the way I do most things anymore, so what the hell…here we go again.

Next up I actually have an announcement/ coming event. I am currently planning (along with my “running girlfriend” Rock, and our good friend Donna) a fundraiser/VIRTUAL 5K!! I will have another post in the immediate future devoted solely to it, but just wanted to throw it out there now to give you a little taste and peak your interest a little. It’s going to be run at the end of January and will be called the Chilly Cheeks Virtual 5K (nice little tie in to the name of the blog: “running my ass off” I think) I am in the final stages of piecing everything together now, so I am hoping to roll everything out next week. So stay tuned, but I am already getting excited about it. Already have a bunch of cool giveaways lined up for it. This is for charity, by the way, as Rock, Donna, and I are signed up as a team to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and then run together in the Broad Street Run (10 miler) in Philly next May. Again…more on that to come

And lastly, I just wanted to send out a quick welcome to all the new readers of the blog. I joined two running groups on FB, and made a quick post in each about the Pearl Izumi Review/ giveaway earlier this week, and subsequently have had a huge influx of new visitors to the blog. It’s awesome to see some new people checking things out, and the feedback I’ve gotten has been overwhelmingly open and positive. So thanks for taking the time to read and again, welcome!

Weight steady, damn arthritic knee but getting better all the time, The triumphant rollout of the Chilly Cheeks Virtual 5K is about to come, and welcome to all the new folks…yup, that about sums it up.

  1. So, what kind of stretches are you getting at physical therapy? I’ve been given stretches that focus on the quads and hamstrings, and was told that because those muscles attach to the knee through ligaments and stuff, they should help with my tendinitis.
